Drug peddler arrested in Budgam: Police

Srinagar, Oct 17 (KNO): Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday said to have arrested a drug peddler in Budgam and recovered contraband substance.

Police Station Charar-e-Sharief received an information through reliable source that one person namely Khurshid Ahmad Ganie son of Abdullah Ganie resident of Bunhar Charawani has illegally dumped dried poppy straw and crushed cannabis in his residential house, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

Acting swiftly, a police party conducted a search of the said house along with Naib Tehsildar Charar-e-Sharief. During search 6Kgs of poppy straw, 5Kgs of dried cannabis like substance and 1Kg of semi dried cannabis leaves was recovered and seized on spot. The accused was arrested on the spot and has been shifted to the police station where he remains in custody, police said.

Subsequently, a case under FIR number 100/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Charar e Sharief & further investigation has been taken up.

Meanwhile, police urged the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, police said—(KNO)
