Protest halts traffic on Sopore-Sumbal road as residents demand action for drowned boy

Bandipora, Sep 03 (KB): The residents of Gundjhangeer Hajin in the Bandipora district early Tuesday morning blocked the Sopore-Sumbal road and brought traffic to a standstill.

Reports reaching the news agency Kashmir Bulletin (KB) said the protesters, including both men and women, demanded immediate action from the district administration regarding the retrieval of the body of Sahil Rasheed, a minor boy who drowned two days ago in Nallah Firozpora at Haritara Sopore on Sunday.

“We are very saddened and also frustrated,” said Abdul Majid of the locality. He said two days have passed, yet no serious efforts have been initiated to recover the body of our child.

He added, “We merely demand that the district administration deploy SDRF teams to trace and recover the body. This delay is causing us more grief.”

Similarly, the protest concluded, while the traffic movement of the area got restored, as the report was was being filed, while protesters continued to ask for the fulfillment of their demands.—(KB)
