Sopore, October 15: The 179th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) organized the “Shaheed Nisar Ahmad Lone Memorial Football Tournament” on Tuesday at Subhana Sports Stadium, Sopore, to honor the memory of the fallen CRPF personnel.
The finale match was contested between SRM Welkin School and MET School, Sopore. MET School emerged victorious with a 2-0 win.
The tournament, inaugurated by Commanding Officer of 179 BN CRPF, Mr. Vickey Choudhary, features participation from 16 football teams and clubs from the Sopore area. It was organized in memory of Nisar Ahmad Lone, a CRPF officer from Anantnag, South Kashmir, who was martyred in Sopore in 2007. The event was attended by CRPF officials and local residents.
Social activist Sheikh Muneer Ahmed, speaking to the media at the event, encouraged the youth to focus on sports and discover their hidden talents. He expressed gratitude to the 179 BN CRPF for organizing not only football and cricket tournaments but also free medical camps for the local community. Sheikh Muneer emphasized the importance of staying away from illegal activities like drug abuse and urged the youth to build careers in sports. He also praised the players for their participation and commitment to a drug-free lifestyle.
