Srinagar, Aug 26 (KB): The fortieth-day commemoration of the martyrdom of Imam Husayn and companions in Karbala, known as Arba’in, was today solemnly held at Khumeni Chowk in Bemina, where Shiite Muslim communities had come to mark the occasion.
It was attended by hundreds and involved activities in remembrance of the reflective legacy that Imam Husayn left with his sacrifice.
“A special Zuljinah procession was taken out at Khumeni Chowk as part of the observance. Participants carried a festooned replica of Imam Husayn’s horse through the streets to commemorate the historic struggle for the memory of martyrs,” the eyewitness present at the occasion told the news agency—Kashmir Bulletin (KB).
Also, display of reverence and solidarity among community members marked the procession.
Similarly, apart from these local commemorations, large numbers of pilgrims attended Khumeni Chowk from various parts of the region, illustrating the significance of Arba’in as a period of spiritual reflection and communal unity.
It is recalled, Arba’in is the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Husayn, his family, and companions on the 10th of Muharram, and is thus also called Chehlum. This is a very significant date of mourning and commemoration for the Shiite Muslims.
A central part of the observation includes pilgrimage to Karbala, where Imam Husayn was martyred, and it is estimated that millions of Shiite Muslims make a visit to his shrine. The Zuljinah procession is part of the Arba’in dating back centuries, symbolizing Imam Husayn’s horse to remind one and all of the supreme sacrifice at the Battle of
